"Exemption Policy"

     In my new journey out here in the County, I realized one major and interesting difference, they have this "Exemption Policy" for students at the High School. The policy has two points:

• If you have an excused absence and a 93 or higher average in the class you  exempt the 9 weeks test for that class. 
• If you have no absences and an 88 or higher, you exempt the 9 weeks test for that class. 

     Isn't it great? It is not only great for students but it is a marvelous way to keep students in school and making good grades. The policy states that if you qualify for the exemption, you don't even have to come to school, and there won't be any marks on your attendance. But if you are here and have to do testing you are able to leave at 11:15. 

     I think all schools should have this policy simply because it is a smarter way to keep kids in line. Maybe this is why Harris County is one of the top schools in the South. They have marvelous SAT and ACT scores and an amazing graduation rate. 

     AS I continue my journey out here I come across new things and new people. They have a smarter way of doing thing as far as making the lives of students easier. They aren't as spirited as I expected but they're getting there.

     I just moved out to Harris County not even a year ago. It wasn't on my terms, however, some bit of this small town has grown on me. I have made new friends that I hope I am able to keep in my life. The high school in itself isn't what I am use to, but then again, I am not from here. 
     I came from Shaw High. Home of the mighty mighty Raiders. Honestly, even though I sit here in Tiger Country, I will more than likely always be a Lady Raider at heart. When I first moved here, I hated it I won't lie, but then I met someone who kinda changed my perspective just a small bit. You guys know I don't release names if you are a fellow reader of my other blog however, if you are a new reader, you will never see me release a name unless I have had permission from them. 
     The guy who changed my perspective has now become a good friend of mine. I came here at the last month of my sophomore year so I didn't meet many people. I had maybe 5 people total who I called "friends" I kept in touch with all of my old teachers and friends as much as I could. 


     Being out here in the County has taught me many valuable life lessons:
1. NEVER allow someone to control your life or the choices you make. 
2. Mom is almost ALWAYS right. 
3. Hold on to what you know is RIGHT. 
4. NEVER make excuses for someone who has done you wrong. 
5. Live your life to the fullest (within reason) 

     I have met many people and made many friends over the last few months I have been here and I am grateful for them. Though they aren't the people I have known for years, they are still an important part of my soul searching journey out here. I have come to learn many things and those are that you should get away every once in awhile. No phone, no communication and take time to yourself. Reflect on what you have and be grateful, you never know when or if it will vanish. 


     Going through what I did to get here opened my eyes to just how delusional one person can be when blinded by love. I did everything for that boy, including going against my mother and rebelling against all known logic. 

     As each day passes and each event occurs, I will post something. Keep watching for events and rallys or even just some good ol' stories.
